Author Charlotte Dillon has complied a list of resources for writing about the middle ages, werewolves, medication, and other specific topics.

Culinary Dictionary

What’s Cooking America has a dictionary that includes techniques, names of dishes, ingredients, and other culinary terms.

Scribophile

Scribophile is an online community of writers. You can get feedback, find beta readers, and get access to their resources. They have a free basic plan, as well as paid options.

Hemmingway

A free online tool to help you write better. Hemmingway points out passive voice, wordiness, and readability.

Buying an ISBN

The official source of ISBNs in the United States is Bowker, so make sure to buy directly from them to avoid any extra fees or scams. You can purchase ISBNs here, and remember that every format of a book (ebook, paperback, hardcover, etc.) needs its own ISBN. I recommend buying 10 at a time, as it’s much cheaper if you need more than 2.

Free Barcodes

Don’t pay for a barcode! When buying an ISBN you can also purchase a barcode, but here you can get up to 10 free barcodes per day as PDFs or PNGs. They also offer free KDP cover templates, a KDP cover size calculator, and an ISBN-13 hyphenator (all limited to 10 per day).
